I'm funny about protocol. I raised my kids to say Ma'am and Sir and Please and Thank you - and don't let me find out otherwise...
To the boy's credit, he was heading to the bank and on the phone with me and some guy must have held the door open for him because I heard..."Thank you, Sir"
Good words to my ears.
I'm glad to hear that he's not a heathen just because he's out of my sight. All those years of brainwashing seemed to have paid off.
...and the days of saying, "Do you want to see Mommy lose her mind? Is that what you people are going for today?" are over... Well, mostly.
It seems like a refreshing although temporary relief when you realize all is for not when it comes to training our kids...of course then they do something to make you think you've been speaking Swahili to them their entire lives.
ReplyDeleteGreat post.
About a year ago when the girls were still in daycare. The bus driver would drop them off at school and pick them up everyday. One day Lois went to get them at daycare and the bus driver said, "I just love your girls. They say thank you to me everyday when I pick them up and drop them off. And you know what else? Before that nobody ever said thank you, but now, everyone on the bus says it everyday. So I just want to say thank you to you and your husband for raising such wonderful girls."
ReplyDeleteI thought that was cool when Lois first told me that.
Michael - Your post made me laugh. Swahili. That's, pretty accurate!
ReplyDeleteSomething Happened Somewhere Turning - What a great story! I can't say that I'm surprised that kids of yours are like that though.
